Happy Tums Happy Buns

Feeding your rabbit correctly is one of the most important things you can do for their health and happiness. A proper diet doesn’t just support digestion, it plays a huge role in dental health, behaviour, and even lifespan.

Here’s what a healthy rabbit diet should look like:

🌾 85–90% high-quality hay
Hay is the foundation of a rabbit’s diet. It provides essential fibre for gut health and helps wear down continuously growing teeth. Fresh hay should be available at all times and should make up majority of their diet.

🥬 Fresh leafy greens or dried forage
A variety of rabbit-safe greens like romaine lettuce, pak choi & herbs like basil and coriander add nutrients and enrichment. Dried forage is also a great addition to their diet and will store for long periods of time when stored correctly.

🟤 Pellets (in small amounts)
Choose a high fibre pellet (no colourful or muesli mixes), and feed only 1–2 tablespoons daily depending on size. A lot of people mistake pellets for being the main meal, when it should be hay.

🍓 Treats (occasionally)
Treats should be given sparingly. Small amounts of oat or hay based treats, or fruit can make great options when used as enrichment or bonding rewards. You can also opt for healthier options like dandelion root or fibre sticks.
