A Hutch Is Not Enough

A common myth is that rabbits can live happily in a small hutch. Rabbits need far more space than most people realise and the quality of their living environment has a direct impact on their physical and mental health.

Rabbits are active animals who need room to run, jump, and express natural behaviours like digging, exploring, and binkying.

Minimum space requirements:
•  At least
3m x 2m x 1m high of accessible space at all times, the more space the better!
•  A sheltered area for them to feel safe like a large pen meeting the requirements or a bunny-proofed corner in a room

•  If housed outside they need a predator proof area such as a shed or outbuilding - please ensure you always do research when housing your rabbit outdoors.
• Plenty of hideouts, and enrichment to encourage movement and exploration

A hutch alone, even a ‘large’ one, is not enough.

🏡 Whether indoors or outdoors, your rabbit’s space should include:
•  Constant access to hay, water, and a litter area
•  Enrichment toys, tunnels, and places to hide
•  Protection from weather, predators, and household dangers
